The Gay Educational and Awareness Resources (GEAR) Foundation is a vital asset to the 200,000+ lesbians and gay men living in the Cleveland area. Created to research, collect, and disseminate educational material about sexuality and sexual orientation, we are an umbrella organization which provides a number of services to the gay community. These services include:

-The Northeast Ohio Lesbian/Gay Hotline, staffed by experienced, trained volunteers who care. The Hotline, which also provides information and referrals, can reached at 651-7111 from 4 to 11 p.m. Monday p.m. Monday through 4-11 p.m. Saturday, and 7-11 p.m. Sunday. Initial Hotline training sessions Occur every Monday night at 7:30, and new volunteers are always welcome.

-A developing library which consists of over 300 volumes concerning issues of sexual orientation. We are currently looking for a volunteer librarian to catalogue and keep track of our books. If you have a couple of hours a week, call 6511999.

-The Gay Community Center, located at 2100 Fulton Road, which houses our offices and telephones and provides free meeting space for speakers, groups, and social events. are welcome to drop in any time the Center is open (during Hotline hours). We sponsor an Open Rap every Friday at 8 p.m."

The GEAR Foundation is pleased to prevent the following activities at the Gay Community Center:

-Monday night November 11, the NBC Network will show "An Early Frost," the first made-for-television movie about AIDS. Starring Aidan Quinn, Ben Gazarra, and Gena Rowlands, the film is a moving portrait of how one American family responds to learning that their son is seriously ill with AIDS. A number of AIDS organizations have reviewed the script and feel the film is an excellent vehicle to dramatize the current health crisis. GEAR is sponsoring an "Early Frost Open House, beginning with a dessert and coffee potluck at 7:30 p.m. The film starts at 9 p.m..
